On Sept. 11, 2013 a celebration was held at Benvoulin Heritage Church to honour the winners of the “Green Thumb Garden Contest 2013”.

The Communities in Bloom Committee has been working hard on various projects over the years. One of them is the annual “Green Thumb Garden Contest” sponsored by Kelownaʼs Parks Services. They call for nominations from the public and send out Communities in Bloom judges (Master Gardeners and experienced gardeners from their committee) to look at all nominations, assess them and pick the winners.

Mayor Gray welcomed the guests warmly and spoke about our cityʼs involvement with Communities in Bloom. Communities in Bloom is a national, international and provincial non-profit organization rewarding outstanding efforts by cities in the horticultural field and community spirit. Kelowna has won many contests over the years and has been awarded “5 blooms”, the ultimate honour.
