For fabulous rich color and wonderfully textured foliage, Heuchera ‘Obsidian’ is a great choice for a small perennial.  Its color does not fade, even in full sun locations.  Coral Bells make a stunning display when mass planted in a bed.  Consider contrasting them with a lime green color for that extra wow factor! They also make great container plants and are attractive to hummingbirds.
